Although nanotechnology has emerged in 1985 and has attracted the interest of large business groups of the major
developed countries such as USA, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, among others, that
realized quickly the immense potential of business represented by its revolutionary and innovative character,
the theme in Brazil remained restricted to scientific circles until 2004.
That year, the Brazilian government officially recognized its strategic importance and created, through the Ministry
of Science and Technology (Ministério da Ciência e Tecnologia), the National Nanotechnology Program
(Programa Nacional de Nanotecnologia – PNN), aiming to foster the development of scientific research in
universities and its application by national companies.
In response some of the main Brazilian business institutions - representatives of the sectors most affected by advances
in nanotechnology - with support from the federal government - joined the Promove Feiras e Eventos to promote the First International
Congress of Nanotechnology - Nanotec International Exposition in 2005 and the First International Exposition of projects,
Nanostructured Materials and Products - Nanotec Expo 2005.
The huge success, both in the inaugural event and in its edition in: 2006, 2007, and 2008 showed the importance of providing
continuity to the initiative, considering that the country meets all scientific and business requirements necessary to
become the center of the radiator of "nanoknowledge" and Nanotechnology in Latin America.
In turn, the Fair & Congress Nanotec established in the business and academic calendar as the main event of nanobusiness
realized in Latin American continent and its potential for growth in terms of exhibitors and visitors - are almost certain.
